After an influx of interviews over the winter, things have been a bit quieter of late when it comes to hearing about what other travel bloggers are up to.  TBI’s have been few and far between, and unfortunately this has resulted in you having to read more of my own questionable writing and what I’ve been up to – bad times I agree.

But fear not, for such a time has thankfully come to an end (for at least a week) as one good sir from down under has stepped up to the TBI plate to give you all a wee insight into his world of travel and blogging.

HI, AND WHO MIGHT YOU BE?

Wez boat

1. Name? Nathan “Wez” Brown

2. Age? 28

3. Travel Blog? http://wezwanders.com

4. Twitter Handle? @wez7

5. Home Town? Canberra, Australia

6. Current Location? Canberra, Australia

7. Your current location, business or pleasure? Both at the moment.

8. Can you tell us a little bit about what you’re up to at the moment? Best bits, worst bits etc.

Currently I am home from travel for a short while, as I just got married to my beautiful wife a few months ago. I’m using the time we have at home to catch up on my backlog of photographs, which I’m hoping to be showing on my website soon. I have also recently started a travel podcast while I’m here, something I’ve been wanting to start but it was a bit hard to begin while I was still travelling.

LETS TALK TRAVEL

wez beer pattaya9. First travel experience?

I guess my first travel experience was when I was 5, and my family went to Singapore. I don’t remember much of it though, only parts, but it has given me a special love for Singapore since. As far as trips I can remember, my first big memorable trip was in late 2010, when I spent 2 months doing a whirlwind round the world trip.

10. Future travel plans?

None that are set in concrete at the moment. I would love to go back to Cambodia and Vietnam sometime though.

11. If you could go anywhere tomorrow where would it be and why?

That’s a tough choice. Cambodia is right up my list, because I loved the culture, and the scenery and people. It holds a special place in my heart. But part of me would want to go to Scotland again if there were no restrictions, seeing as it’s a lot further away than Cambodia

12. If you could avoid going anywhere tomorrow where would it be and why?

Hmmm I can’t actually think of anywhere I would avoid at the moment. There’s places not as high on my list as others, but I certainly away than Cambodia

12. If you could avoid going anywhere tomorrow where would it be and why?

Hmmm I can’t actually think of anywhere I would avoid at the moment. There’s places not as high on my list as others, but I certainly don’t think I’d avoid any new experiences.

13. What 5 items would you not go travelling without?

I can only think of a few things that I would definitely not travel without. Clothes – you know, so I don’t scare people. My camera – to take photos of all the places I’m visiting, and to share and inspire people with them. My laptop – to store the many photos I take, to keep my blog/website updated, and also keep in touch with my family. (Although lately my phone seems to be capable of doing the last one better than my laptop).

14. Best bit of advice you’ve received?

Pack light (your body will thank you). Sure you hear it all the time, but I cannot stress that most of the things you think you will need on your trip, you won’t. Besides, most places you can pick up extra clothes, or medicine, or cords without too much hassle. Having said that, I still don’t pack all that light when it comes to my camera bag.

15. Worst advice?

“(insert any country/city name here) isn’t that great.” Sure, it might not be, but then again it might, and maybe they just had a bad experience there. Don’t write off a place just because you hear one bad thing about it.

16. Best bit of advice you can give readers of this interview?

Be prepared during your travels, but don’t let it get in the way of having fun or experiencing new things. Be prepared to change your plans if a better opportunity than the one you planned arises.

RANDOM

17. Favourite ice cream flavour? Cookies and Cream

18. Apple or Android? I just made the switch to Android a few weeks ago actually

19. Blogger or WordPress? WordPress

20. Hostel or hotel? I find that both have their pro’s and con’s. Hotels are nicer and give more space, but hostels give more social experiences. Depends on the situation of the travel.

21. Guilty pleasure? I should maybe say beer, but I don’t feel guilty about it.

22. Your chosen super-power? Ability to fly… I already have super strength ;)

23. Airplane seat – aisle, centre or window? I prefer the window. I have a fairly strong bladder, so most flights I can sit there the whole time without going, so a window seat means I don’t have people climbing over me constantly.

24. What song/album are you listening to right now? Hmmm usually I just have my iTunes on shuffle when I’m processing photos.

SHAMELESS PLUG

25. Thank you for answering my questions, as a gesture of thanks I allow you one whole paragraph to shameless plug of your website …

Wez Wanders is a travel and photography blog, where I not only share my experiences while travelling, but also showcase some of my photos. Soon I am changing the direction of my blog to be more photo-based (so stay tuned for that change) and I also recently started a travel podcast, chatting with other travel bloggers about travel. You can access the podcast through my blog. Come visit my blog, have a look around, I hope you enjoy your stay there ;)
