Tag your it says Chris @BackpackerBanter as he runs away laughing, back to his south american paradise, surfing and sipping ice cold beer, whilst I’m stuck in an office under miserable grey skys. Git! Haha, i jest thanks Chris. I love being tagged in series like this, its a great way for me to remind myself of how lucky i’ve been with my travels. Its a trip down memory lane.
So, in association with @HostelBookers, here are my 7 super shots, click on each of the them see an enlarged version. Enjoy …
A photo that…takes my breath away
Surfs up dude, this photo was taken at Spot X on Australia’s east coast. Spot X was my first stop after leaving Sydney on the Oz Experience bus. Our group only stayed a single night, but we were still able to fit in a quick surf lesson at this stunning spot.
A photo that…makes me laugh or smile
This photo was taken at a school footabll tournament just outside of Colomobo in Sri Lanka. I was volunteering as a sports coach at a local school where I got on really well with all the kids. It was a brilliant day and I was both shocked and overjoyed to be able to accompany the kids on the trip to the tournament. Somehow how the course of the 6 week volunteering stint they somehow come up with the nickname of ‘frog’ for me, by the end of the tourament all the english speaking teachers from the other school taking part were asking me if my name really was Mr Frog.
A photo that…makes me dream
This photo is my window to travel, that sounds a bit cheesy doesn it, but it also kinda fits. Taken from our guesthouse window and overlooking Dubrovniks old town in Croatia. I think the photo acts as encouragement to go out and explore. It was also taken on a rather nice day, which always helps!
A photo that…makes me think
If you dont already know, this photo was taken in Auschwitz, Poland. I’m not sure really what to write here. Our trip to Auschwitz was one of the most sombering experiences of my life, if no the most. A lot of terrible things took place in Auschwitz, things I can only imagine, and even then I’m not sure i’d even be close. This photo reminds me that I’m really lucky to have grown up where and when I have.
A photo that…makes my mouth water
Ok so maybe whats in this pic wont make your mouth water, but once its been harvested, sorted, fermented, aired, polished and made into Chocolate I bet you’d like a taste. I took this photo whilst visiting the Belmont Estate in Grenada where we took a tour and learnt all about cocoa pods and how eventually their contents is turned into smooth dark chocolate. YUM!
A photo that…tells a story
Sexy huh, its a wonder how the mrs can keep her hands off me sometimes. Seriously though, what a state! Ok so i’m kind cheating here with two photos, but as most of you can probably guess, this is the before and after of a night on the buckets in Thailand.
Black moon party + too many buckets + fluorescent paints + no sleep for 2 days + waking up late after finally getting to sleep and almost missing your boat back to Kao Saumi = this. You have been warned.
A photo that…I am most proud of
Not bad eh, even if I do say so myself. This widescreen beauty (go on, click on it to see it expand) is the result of stiching together 6 different photos of Djemaa el Fna in the heart of Marrakech using the photomerge function on photoshop. I think the lighting came out pretty well, the picture shows the hussle ‘n’ bussle of the markets

I’m usually terrible at photography, these are 7 decent shots out of about 4000.
Nice roundup of pics! Gotta love the one that tells a story. Those buckets are deeeaaaadlllyyyyyy.
I love the Dubrovnik photo, I loved that city!
@Tom tell me about it, how rough do I look there!? I found out about the buckets the hard way. #epicfail
@Ali sorry about the comment lovin thing, I’ll try and sort it, noticed it on a few blogs though.
Yeah Dubrovnik is amazing, even the hundreds of stairs cant bring me to dislike that place. Croatia in general is pretty special.
Great shots! I love the diversity in your selections.
@Samuel Thanks mate. Think its more by luck than design, but I thought they all looked half decent.
